Sofia Vassilieva

Sofia Vassilieva

Sofia Vladimirovna Vassilieva was born on October 22, 1992 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Russian immigrant parents. Both of her parents are scientists, her mother a biologist and her father being a physicist. She had the genes of a researcher, but her passion laid in another discipline.

Vassilieva is an aspiring actress who has the talent to enter any other profession. At the age of three, Sofia began speaking French and reading in Russian and English. She started taking ballet at the same age, and various other interests including piano and gymnastics.

Sofia's discovery as an actress and model happened at the International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA) in New York, where she won 7 awards including Child Actress of the Year and finished runner up for Child Model of the Year.

Less than a year later Vassilieva landed the part of Elena, granddaughter of a retired general, in an episode of the series The Agency. In 2002, she appeared as Cindy Brady in the TV movie The Brady Bunch in the White House.

Vassilieva enjoyed considerable success that year as she beat out another famous child actress, Dakota Fanning, for the role of Eloise in two made for TV movies, Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime. These roles gained Vassilieva significant respect as she was nominated for the Best Performance in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special at the Young Artist Awards of 2004.

At the age of 11, Sofia started on another role, building on her previous success, and began playing the role of Ariel DuBois in the series Medium. This role brought her even more acclaim, with a win for the Young Artist Award in 2006 based on her performance on the hit series.

In 2009 Vassilieva landed her first leading role in a silver screen production in My Sister's Keeper. She played the role of Kate Fitzgerald, a girl suffering from leukemia, in a movie where her parents conceive another child through in vitro fertilization to be a genetic match for Kate and save her life. Sofia starred with Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin in the movie, and it was a success with critics and the box office.

Vassilieva won another Young Artist Award for best supporting actress in a feature film for her work in My Sister's Keeper.

Sofia is currently taking time to pursue her academic interests, and is enrolled at Columbia University. She hopes to use this education to enhance her prospects and develop a stronger base of knowledge for herself.
