Guide to Virgin Island Colleges and Universities

The Virgin Islands are actually a collection of islands that are owned by two different nations. The United States Virgin Islands, which consist of the popular vacation destinations Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas, among others, are an unincorporated territory of the United States. The British Virgin Islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke along with a collection of significantly smaller islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. The Virgin Islands which most people think of when they hear the term are the United States' controlled territories. These are popular tourist attractions, and provide mystical beachfront abodes; even basketball legend Walt Frazier owns a successful resort business on the island of St. Croix.

The economy of the islands is mainly based on tourism, as the United States Virgin Islands draw upwards of two million visitors per year. Other economic industries in the area include the manufacturing sector, and the financial services industry is one of the fastest growing components of the island's economy. The education system is well-administered, and includes a number of colleges, the most well known being the University of the Virgin Islands.
