Earning Your Degree in Guam Colleges

The area known as Guam is considered to be an organized unincorporated territory of the United States, meaning that it is controlled by the United States but is not subject to the legal doctrine of America. The island is located north of Papua New Guinea and east of the Phillipines. It was the only US-controlled state in the area prior to World War II. Original settlers and inhabitants of Guam are known as the Chamorro people, and they still account for a sizable percentage of the territory's population (37.1%).

The two main drivers of the economy of Guam are tourism and the United States military, which maintains several bases in the territory. Most tourists in Guam are Japanese, and come to the area to enjoy the splendid tropical marine climate and breathtaking scenery. Higher education in Guam is fairly extensive, as the territory is home to three separate colleges; the University of Guam, Guam Community College, and Pacific Islands University.
