Navy Tuition Assistance

The Navy is one of the most influential branches of the United States military. It’s waged huge battles and won throughout its history and has been massively important. But is that enough for you? No? Maybe not, but the benefits that it offers are extremely valuable. However, if stringent qualifications for the tuition aren’t for you, the Navy might not be either.

The Navy tuition assistance program is very similar to the Army and most other branches of the military in that it will pay for up to 100% of all your tuition and fees. You just go to school and they will pay for all of it, no matter what it is. If the school requires it, the Navy will pay for it. However, there are a lot of qualifications for getting this tuition assistance and it is up to the student.

First of all, you have to be on active duty to receive this financial assistance. Whether you’re an officer, on active duty or a reserve member consistently on active duty, you’re eligible. Anything else you can forget it. You also can’t just be on active duty when you register for the assistance. For the entirety of the course, you have to remain on active duty or be forced to pay back the tuition assistance. The Navy didn’t just plan on giving away money when they started this.

The Department of Education also has to be recognized the institution you attend as accredited or the tuition assistance doesn’t apply. When this occurs in the Army, there is just paperwork to be filled out. In the Navy, tuition assistance just isn’t going to happen under these circumstances. Again, they have very stringent qualifications.

Another difference from the Army is that the Navy requires all failures as well as withdrawals to be reimbursed. This only applies to failures in the Army system. The Navy has many, many more requirements for their assistance and tend to make you work harder for it.

Naval officers have to agree to be on active duty for at least two years to be eligible for tuition assistance as well. It’s up to you if you’re an officer if sacrifices like this are worth it. Those who don’t fulfill this obligation have to pay back the TA.

To apply for Naval Tuition Assistance, you have to contact the Navy office at your college and fill out tuition assistance applications. If you’re having enough trouble with financial aid that you want to join the military, it’s up to you to see if the Navy’s for you. If you want it free and easy, find something else. However, if you want discipline and many requirements for your tuition assistance, sign up with the Navy.
