Even an Associate's Degree can Help

Many people have thought about going to community college at some point in their high school careers. They see the low cost option and all the easy credits available and think to themselves how enrolling there could really save them a lot of money and make things easier on a lot of people. But something stops them along the way. It can be a variety of things but the fact is that something is keeping students away from community college, which really can be a valuable experience.

Many times there are students that want to go to community college but end up going to an expensive four year school or just don’t go to college at all since they feel like they’ll be ridiculed by their friends or just feel bad themselves. Community college is wrongly portrayed in the media as something that’s just for the dumb kids who can’t hack it in a normal university environment. They see it as a place where there isn’t the traditional college experience so it isn’t worthwhile. It’s just like a larger high school. But community college can be worth it in so many ways.

Even if you just graduate from a community college and do nothing else in terms of your education, there’s still some value. You’ll be placed above those with just high school diplomas. Sure it’s no great shakes but you’ll still have a leg up on a lot of your competition. However, the degree really gets valuable if you use it to go onto a four year college.

Believe it or not, despite how easy the classes can be, your credits from your community college will, for the most part, transfer to your four year college. You basically took two years of college for a fraction of the price while still doing pretty much what everyone else did. You make out like a bandit because of all that money you saved, while everyone else is being robbed blind. If you do well in the community college environment, you can actually come out ahead in many ways.

Don’t be ashamed of going to community college. There can really be a ton of value to it and can take you places you never thought you’d be able to go for a fraction of the price. At least don't rule it out immediately. It may not be right for everyone, but it does fit some.
