Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training

The Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) is a National Accrediting body which is focused on adult education and career training. But given that mandate, the scope of programs overseen by this body is incredibly broad. There are accredited programs in a number of growing fields.

In the area of health care services you will find training for medical transcriptionist, pharmacy technician, medical office administrator, claims analyst to name a few. Information technology schools offer web design, network security, and a host of other profitable careers. In business programs you can train for project management, business analysis, accounting and bookkeeping, truly a multitude of general office applications. In the area of paralegal studies, you will see good careers in law offices oriented toward corporate, criminal, family, real estate, immigration, estates, and a multitude of other fields as well as related careers in security, corrections, compliance and insurance.

This is only a small sampling in a few areas. The ACCET also accredits programs as diverse as aviation, culinary arts, truck driving and language skills. Many of the schools they oversee offer career-boosting training in your present field, such as web design, sales training or social media networking skills.

The ACCET was founded in 1974 and gained official recognition by the U.S. Department of Education in 1978. Its scope of recognition is “institutions of higher education that offer continuing education and vocational programs that confer certificated or occupational associate degrees, including those programs offered via distance education” (Edgov.com).

Based in Washington D.C., the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training accredits educational institutions and other programs, like some offered by company training departments, labor unions and public service organizations. In 1998 it earned ISO 9001 certification from the International Organization for Standardization and it remains the only accrediting body to have attained this standard.
