Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges

The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges administers the accreditation of degree and non-degree programs for more than 800 institutions nationwide that are dedicated to occupational, trade and technical careers. Some of these programs are offered through distance education.

You will find a broad diversity of vocational training under this commission’s jurisdiction. The focus is on jobs and careers, but beyond that anything goes. Here is just a small sampling of the training available: automotive technology, business administration, culinary arts, digital filmmaking, electronics technology, fashion design, game art & design, health information technology, personal trainer, computer networking and wireless technology, and on and on! If you’re having trouble making up your mind about a career, just go down the list of programs this commission oversees.

The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges is based in Arlington, Virginia and was founded in 1965 as part of the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools (NATTS). In 1967 it received recognition as a National Accrediting body from the U.S. Department of Education.

When the United States government passed the Higher Education Act Amendments of 1992, it was determined that the accrediting function of the NATTS would operate more effectively as an arms’ length, objective and distinct entity. So in 1993 the accreditation and association components separated, and the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology was born. In October 2009, the ACCSCT became the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.

As always, the value of accreditation is immense, even if you might not think so at this moment. Future employers and customers will see your accredited certificate or degree as a plus. Down the line you may choose to further your education and training. Take a few moments to investigate before you commit valuable time and money.
