Online Master’s Degree

By the time students get their bachelor’s degrees, most have had enough of school. Very few, about 3%, continue on to pursue a master’s degree even though doing so can reap significant financial rewards. It’s estimated that those who go on to earn a master’s degree earn about $200 per week more than those with only a bachelor’s degree. Multiply the additional income by 52 weeks and that’s over $10,000 per year more in earnings.

Why don’t more students pursue a master’s degree?

The reason likely is because of the huge commitment a master’s degree requires. Master’s degree students must be very dedicated. Their coursework, which will focus on one area, will require intense study.

Students can choose from among several types of master’s degree programs including a Master’s in Business Administration (i.e., MIB or MBA), a Masters in Education (i.e., MEd, MSed, or M.A.T), an MSW (Master’s in Social Work), an MFA (Master’s in Fine Arts) and a Master’s in Library Science (MLS). There are others, and those who complete their master’s degrees usually go on to pursue a Ph.D.

Students pursuing a master’s degree via an online learning program won’t find classes any easier. But the flexibility in scheduling will make juggling a busy schedule easier. Most master’s degree programs available through distance learning offer multiple start times which means students don’t have to wait until the traditional start of a fall semester to begin. As for completion time, most distance learning students take between one and three years to complete their master’s degree program requirements.
